Picnicking on The Ferry Dock
A week or so ago, OLM and I went for a picnic. It was a gorgeous January day with no rain in sight. Rather than eat lunch at home we bundled up and went for a walk and ended up going to his favourite place, ‘The Ramp’ in the Olympic Village.
‘The Ramp’ is actually the Aquabus ferry dock in the Village. It was installed last year to replace the ageing one nearby Creekside Community Centre. It has one of the best water level views in False Creek. You can see Science World, BC Place and Roger’s Arena and some of the plentiful construction cranes still to be found in the area.
You can also watch the schools of fish swim nearby the shoreline under the protective shadow of the docks. Less of a rarity these days it seems you’ll see seals and otters poking their heads up for air, and you might even catch yourself dreaming of flying as the seagulls sail by on invisible currents. I suppose we’re all there for the fish, and the view.
A Perfect Place for a Picnic
The Ferry Dock on the Olympic Village in False Creek is a lovely spot to enjoy our small spread of sandwiches, Babybel cheese rounds, and a thermos of hot chocolate to sip while taking in the view.
And the best part? The *smile on OLM’s face when the ferry captain agrees to blow the horn as she sails off to collect more passengers who will soon enjoy their peaceful ride in one of the loveliest places to live in Vancouver, BC.
*the smile wasn’t captured on his face, but I tried really hard!
