Whenever you think life gets too complicated or the stress is getting the best of you it’s helpful to go back to the beginning. Starting over or looking at the simple ways to get to the heart of the matter is often a really good first step. This is also true of good skin care.
Is your skin feeling tight, dry or breaking out more than usual? Is it reactive or not handling the change of seasons well? Maybe it’s time to have a look at how you’re cleaning your skin.
As a skincare therapist I know that the key to getting your skin clean and keeping it looking and feeling great is using a cleanser that respects the pH balance. If your skin feels anything other than soft and supple chances are there’s an imbalance internally or your cleanser is either too strong or unsuitable for your skin type. Or maybe you’re not using a cleanser at all? Oh the shame! Just kidding, sort of.
When you live in the city or are exposed to pollution and worse, stress, the skin accumulates debris and excretes excess oil that needs to come off.
I’m not saying that changing your cleanser will solve every problem, wouldn’t that be nice! But if you’ve using a facial cleanser that strips the skin’s natural oils resulting in excessive oil production later in the day or it leaves a film on the skin, chances are a change in your cleansing routine is needed.
Keep your sweet face fresh and oil-free with a good quality cleanser. I’m not here to tell you which one to use as there are many good ones out there. I happen to love Dermalogica but I’m not selling it or promoting it. Just find one that feels good and cleans well and you’re golden.
Tip of the Day
Once you have the correct cleanser for your skin condition here’s what you’re going to do.
Clean your Skin 2x
If you are wearing makeup you need to cleanse your skin twice in the evening — once to remove the makeup and the next to clean the skin thoroughly.
In the mornings, lightly cleaning the skin 1X will be plenty if you’ve done a thorough job of it the night before. If your skin is on the dry side you can even skip using a cleanser in the morning altogether. Just use a warm washcloth followed by a splash of cold water. That’s it, that’s all.
Clean my skin twice. Who knew? 1x to remove makeup, 1x to wash face. Thanks! #skincarediaries Share on XThanks for reading. Follow #skincarediaries on Twitter and Instagram.
