Education Crisis in BC: An Open Letter to MLA Sam Sullivan

This post contains a letter that my partner Eric sent to Sam Sullivan, the MLA for False Creek. He also spoke with his secretary Cris Garvey whom I am told is a nice lady.

If you live in False Creek please contact the office yourself 604-775-2601 and/or write a letter expressing your concerns about getting kids back in school. If you don’t live there, click HERE find out who your MLA is and let them know how you feel about the education crisis in BC.

Dear Hon. Sam Sullivan,

I write to you today as a constituent living in your riding, as a taxpayer, as a parent and as a teacher.
After previously writing and tweeting you to make contact with me some time ago, I write again with renewed hope that you will respond to this correspondence.

At present, your government is dragging their heels and not agreeing to enter into mediation with the BCTF to help to bring and end to this crisis concerning BC ED.  Despite sound bites by Min Fassbender and saying that the government is ready to negotiate “24/7”, calls to meet, negotiate and resolve this crisis have not been respected or responded to appropriately.

I respectfully ask that you request Min. Peter Fassbender to direct the BCPSEA to openly and fairly enter into mediation now. Preconditions by your government are haulting the process from occurring. Parents and taxpayers expect your government to do their job, be honest and negotiate fairly. Teachers are members of the two groups I mentioned. Make no mistake, all are watching and are aware that the BC Liberals are stalling. Why else wouldn’t they freely enter into mediation to sort this matter out? Vince Ready has agreed to assist with the mediation process. This process will be fair and reasonable asking both sides to make concessions no doubt, but more importantly it will offer objectivity to negotiations and mist likely solutions.

To lose this opportunity would be more than unfortunate, it will be viewed very poorly in the eyes of the public no matter who is considered to blame. Be aware that you and your caucus will then be accountable to your constituents.

No $40.00 a day subsidy will be received gratefully by constituents and taxpayers who prefer to have schools open and classes started.

I urge and caution you to make the right decision, else rest assured this problem will not end and go away.

Our children deserve to be in school and I want to get back to work. Please follow your own mind and heart to urge for mediation now.

Thanks for reading.

Respectfully,

Eric Hartmann
False Creek
