The month of June is all about Dad
More specifically, this month is all about my baby daddy, The Serious One.
My baby daddy is in serious need of a new nickname.
As you may or may not know I’ve been calling my partner by the moniker ‘The Serious One’ since starting this blog back in the day, (the day isn’t that long ago, but sometimes time goes by soooo slowly when you have a pipsqueak running the household, ahem, I mean running around).
Up until recently, I’ve teased The Serious One for his serious lack of humour at home. It seems that he’s one of those people who ‘turns it on’ at work but when he comes home he leaves the humour at the door. I don’t blame him though. Raising a child takes the ME out of, well me and HIM, if you get my meaning.
The Serious One is a middle school Fine Arts teacher, and spends his day laughing and joking with his students who absolutely adore him. Whenever we venture out in public, it seems, we run into a previous student of his who rushes up to him all smiles. It seems that they like him a lot and that they knew something that I didn’t. Turns out he was just ass-tired, the dragging your ass home kinda tired.
I really don’t fault him, he took care of his family in the best way he knew how which was to go to work everyday despite being bone-tired. He got up in the night when I was exhausted from insomnia issues and he just plain got worn out. And then he got sick. One thing after another plagued him but he didn’t complain much. He just didn’t bring the jokey fun guy home that he was at work. He suffered through one illness after another, for the best part of a year. It’s no wonder he didn’t check himself in to the funny farm. That was some nasty shit.
Fortunately, our pipsqueak (or OLM as I like to call him) is sleeping through most nights now, he’s almost three, which has given him the opportunity to get more rest and find his funny bone.
I’ve been shocked several times this week when The Serious One has, unexpectedly, been cracking jokes. At. Home. I’ve been taken aback, unsure of what he’s playing at or wondering if aliens stopped by unannounced. (Not that they announce themselves)
But now I know it’s happened. He’s back! He’s feeling more like his old self, even though he is much older this year and will ALWAYS be older than me.
And because I want to honour my baby daddy this month, I thought it would be good to shed the old name and find a shiny new one.
What do you think his new nickname should be?
Here are a few ideas to get you started.
- Funny Boy
- Misunderstood Man
- Awesome Dad
- Raised Brow Daddy
Please go to the comments section and tell me what you think his new name should be!
