If you’re looking for a place to get a pedicure in Vancouver, there are literally thousands of options. With a price range that varies from the price of a decent lunch for two to an extravagant meal out with a nice bottle of wine it’s hard to know if price really matters.
In general I would say that it does, however, there are a few key factors that you should know in order to make the best, and safest choice.
Choosing a Pedicure Salon
It’s always best to pay the salon a visit before committing to a service as you can check out the premises and look for signs of professionalism and cleanliness.
Checklist | Keep these in mind when looking for pedicure services
- Does the salon take pride in orderliness and general tidiness? The best way to check for this is to look in the bathroom and in all the corners for dust bunnies.
- Are the pedicure stations tidy, the tools and products clean and organized, with fresh towels available?
- How are the pedicure stations cleaned between clients?
- Is the salon busy? This is a sign that the services are top-notch.
- What kind of sanitation procedures does the salon use to clean metal implements? Do they sterilize or sanitize?
- Are the non-metal tools disposable?
Information Overload
Now I know that this is a lot of information to take in. It’s easy to forget to ask these things, especially if you don’t have the experience to know what to ask. But here’s the thing. If your salon of choice has sanitation down pat, you can relax and enjoy the process and forget the rest because if they are prioritizing safety you’re in good hands.
Having spent nearly 15 years in the spa industry myself I can tell you that sanitation is NOT top priority for a lot of salons in Vancouver. Which is why I am writing this post today. There is a salon in town that I know you can trust to keep you safe and so in partnership with them, I am going to give away a pedicure service to one lucky reader!
Canvas Hair and Nail Salon in Kitsilano is my salon of choice and here’s why:
- All metal implements are sterilized, not sanitized, so they are guaranteed to be sparkling clean.
- The staff is pleasant and pay attention to detail.
- My feet always feel smooth and relaxed after exfoliation and massage.
- The polish application is perfect every time and doesn’t chip. And if you smudge they will look after you without any grief.
- The massage chairs are comfortable and relaxing. Towels are fresh and plentiful.
- There are 4 chairs so I can bring 3 of my friends with me. By the way when I do bring 3 friends, and we all have mani/pedi services Canvas will supply beverages of the wine kind to make it even more fun!
- The price is reasonable at $35.00 for a pedicure. They also have mani/pedi specials for around $55.00. This mama likes that price.
Quyen Duong, owner of Canvas Hair and Nail Salon is also a full-time stylist as she believes in helping take care of her client’s beauty needs and believes it is important to building self-confidence as a woman. She says, ‘When you look your best, you feel better.’
I have to agree. While the outside ‘package’ is certainly not the most important thing, when you got that going on you feel sexier and challenges seem a bit easier to handle.
I haven’t had my hair done by Quyen yet but it’s definitely on my mind, as well as Canvas’s waxing and eyelash extension services.
