Don’t you just love October?
Cooler nights. The duvet is back on the bed. Curling up with a good book in a cozy sweater with a (spiked) hot chocolate after dinner. Ahhh..Isn’t it great?
Not only do I love all these things that come with the change of season I love that my four-year old son is fascinated with the holidays, specifically Halloween. Ever since he realized that it is a mere 6 weeks away…Egad! it’s all he talks about.
Costumes and A Ginormous Pumpkin
Our little man has already picked out costumes for me, his dad and his stuffed doggie. He’s set on being a vampire and has got the costume sorted thanks to time spent in pop up Halloween shops and on Pinterest. We’ll be sure to check out Just Imagine, our local open year round costume shop for the bits we need for our costumes too. And of course who wouldn’t be inspired by the ginormous pumpkin we spotted in our local grocery store.
When my son first laid eyes on it, well, he was mesmerized. Of course there was much pumpkin climbing and mommy rescuing said climber and pumpkin hugs for the big guy. He bopped around it for what seemed like an hour telling himself stories about the biggest pumpkin he has ever seen and what his plans were for it.
Ah… kids. They are amazing little storytellers, aren’t they? There’s a lot to be learned from a child’s creative imagination and I’m not about to spoil moments like these. So, if he wants to believe he can turn it into a Jack-o-Lantern himself so he can sit inside, or believe in the Great Pumpkin and Santa Claus until he’s 16 I’m not going to blow that for him.

The other reason I’m excited about October this year is that I’m embarking on a new adventure with KINDER® Canada and the #KinderMom program. I’m so excited to have been chosen to represent what is honestly my son’s favourite treat.
Ever since he was old enough to say ‘That’s a chocolate egg!’, it’s been the one thing that gets him excited. I could seriously get my son to do pretty much anything if he knows he’ll get one. And what’s really sweet is that he ALWAYS shares. It makes me so proud to see him break off pieces for everyone in the room.
I suppose we’re doing something right. It’s also a win for me because I love the toys found inside and love to put them together for him. I’m sure that won’t last as he’s getting pretty good at figuring these things out even at 4 years old.
What does being a #KinderMom mean?
I’ll be writing a post every other month with Kinder in mind and will include giveaways. Join the email list today so you don’t miss a thing.

- On August 30 at the CNE, KINDER® Canada broke a GUINNESS World Record? Read the news release for more info.
- Canadians can visit the virtual KINDER® Smile Booth by visiting KINDER® Canada’s Facebook page and clicking on the “Smile Booth” tab to create free, shareable digital photo strips.
- As of mid-September, limited-edition Transformers and Disney Fairies toys can be found inside specially marked KINDER® SURPRISE® eggs. There are 8 Transformers toys and 10 Disney Fairies toys to collect. The Transformers toys can even be connected together to create a larger toy for added fun!
I don’t think we’ll be giving away Kinder Surprise treats to all the kids, but I think our son has a few special friends in mind. I’m looking forward to seeing their faces when they open the Transformers and Disney Fairies toys!
World Smile Day
The other fun event going on in October this year is World Smile Day on October 3rd. It’s a whole day devoted to smiles around the globe. Why don’t you join in? It’s easy! [Tweet “Join in on World Smile Day, a whole day devoted to #kindersmiles around the globe. Oct 3rd! @KinderCanada”]

Hi Donna. Thank you for saying that. I agree that supporting local is important and even though we check out the pop up shops around town at this time of year, we always come to Just Imagine and recommend it whenever we can. We do a costume swap where I live (which I have yet to take part in) but I will definitely keep in mind about donating outgrown costumes. What a great idea. And I did a quick edit to include your shop and I do love it!

Hi Lee-Anne,
I hope people make the connection that year round costume shops provide year round jobs, and support the community in dozens of ways throughout the year. Just Imagine supplies donations for children’s programmes, promote children’s events and this year is our 5th annual Costume Drive for inner city kids.
Pop up shops take the money, fire everyone and leave town November 1st. This year there will be 11 pop up shops in the lower mainland. I know you are a great supporter of local business and I appreciate your help getting this message out. Please drop off your outgrown kids costumes to any Just Imagine location to help kids who wouldn’t have a costume otherwise.
