I’ve been geeking out lately with IPhone apps, trying to stay sane, get in shape, learn something new and find ways to spend quality time with the Serious One and friends.
3 IPhone Apps That Keep This Mama Sane
Best Baby Monitor
This is by far the best, most amazing app yet. I can put my IPhone in baby’s room, ringer off and connect to the Serious One’s phone, or any other phone we choose and if the baby wakes up, it will call us within seconds.
Best Baby Monitor is a direct link to our son’s room. When the call comes, we can hear his sweet little voice or his raging screams very clearly. You can change the sensitivity if you know your baby is a bit of a squawker. The app will reset itself once he calms down. There is also a video option for parents who want to be doubly sure their little one is safe and secure.
Freedom
Now we can go next door for a neighbourly drink or hand the baby monitor over to our lovely neighbours next door to go to the community centre (a 3 minute walk for a much-needed yoga class). We haven’t done this yet, but we could go to the pub for a drinky-poo if we are brave enough. Not too much of a stretch considering the pub is a mere 3 minute walk as well. And there is an even braver option: going for a run around the block using my nifty new apps I will describe below.
Endomondo
I’ve started a Sun Run training clinic and need to keep track of intervals when I am running. Yes! I said running. Here are my two favourite apps to not only keep track of my time and intervals but to inspire me to run faster.
With Endomondo, I can personalize my experience by setting the intervals I need to match the Sun Run program. There are lots of other options to add, like monitoring heart rate etc, but you’ll need to upgrade. When I’m finished a training session this app tells me I’ve completed my goal and gives me a hug. 😉
Zombies, Run!
This app is a ton of fun if you have ever wondered what would play out during a zombie apocalypse. In Zombies, Run! as Runner 5, you are immersed in an action-filled and somewhat dramatic human survival story, living amongst the living dead. You go on running missions to collect supplies, distract the zombies and help save humans from an untimely demise.
When you hear ‘Warning, Zombies detected’, you’d better run!
What’s even better than these two apps individually is using them simultaneously! Just sync your playlist with Zombies, Run! and you’re good to go.
The only downside is that the zombies may chase you when you’re doing the walk portion of the Endomondo interval training bit and aren’t ready to run. Sometimes though, you can out walk the slower zombies. Â There is also a 5K Learn to Run app you can upgrade to with Zombies, Run! It doesn’t seem to be customizable like Endomondo, but it looks like it would work well on its own.
There are more apps I could list off that help preserve my sanity. I have a few I’m testing out for meditation and yoga and there are Sesame Street and Cat in the Hat books that keep OLM occupied when I’m on my last nerve.
I’ll write about those soon. For now you can go to the App Store and browse to your heart’s content.
Do you have favourite apps that keep you sane? Tell me about them, I wanna know!

As for the rest, I don’t have the balls to do it.

What’s wrong with the baby monitor? We’ve used it to go to yoga class:). We’ve synced the monitor to call the neighbours. It works!

The baby monitor app is just nuts…yikes…great way to start a conversation though!
