Skin Care Diaries: 5 Minute Morning Routine

January 2, 2014 By beautiful mama. Leave a Comment

I often get told I have great skin.

This is surprising to me considering that I’ve always had a problem with acne. It flares up anytime I am feeling really stressed which often leads to eating or drinking something decadent. Think chocolate bars, craft beer or a combination of both!

But that’s besides the point. I love that my skin gives the illusion of well, good skin. Do you want to know my secret? It’s not really a secret but rather a simple routine that you can do in five minutes or less.

Super Easy 5 Minute Morning Routine

1. Cleanser

Cleanse the skin with something that respects the natural oils in your skin. I love Burt’s Bees Radiance Facial Cleanser.

Burt's Bees CleanserThey say ~‘This light lotion cleanser removes dirt, oil and make-up, revealing a smooth and radiant complexion. A gentle plant-based cleansing complex plus jojoba beads and a fruit acid complex help encourage normal skin cell turnover. While royal jelly, one of nature’s most nutritious substances, helps enhance skin’s natural radiance. Your skin appears brighter and younger-looking, naturally.’ source BurtsBees.ca
I say ~ It smells fresh, foams lightly and rinses clean away. My normal to oily skin likes this in the morning to wake up and prepares it nicely for the next steps. Don’t use around the eyes.

2. Toner and SPF

Spray a hydrating toner all over and while the skin is still damp, apply Youth Code BB Cream with SPF by Loreal. I used this product in the winter and like it more now that my skin doesn’t need a lot of hydration. Find out why here.

3. Concealer

Pat concealer (choose one that suits your needs, for puffiness or dark circles or both!) lightly around the eyes and then apply your favourite pressed (or loose) *mineral powder on top. Then, apply your minerals all over the face and neck for an even finish.

4. Use Mineral Makeup for a Flawless Finish

Spray toner on after the mineral application and press into the skin with a sponge to set the makeup. *Mineral makeup (talc-free only) is the simplest and most effective way to give the skin a natural flawless finish. Be sure to check the ingredients to ensure there are no fillers like talc and mica. They are comedogenic (clog pores) and can look flat or too shiny. Most talc-free mineral makeups offer sun protection and because they are in powder form they set the sunscreen you put on before. I prefer Jane Iredale products above all but when you have budget constraints like most SAHMs do you might prefer to get Origins or Skoah mineral products instead. They are nice products and more affordable. If you’re planning on being in front of the camera anytime soon, talc-free mineral makeup photographs very well, in fact it’s what all the newscasters On Global TV are using these days as HD is very unforgiving.

5. Jane Iredale Dual Purpose Bronzer

Jane Iredale's Quad BronzerI love Jane Iredale’s Quad Bronzer because it offers flexibility of colour. There are two colour palates to choose from with four colours  in each. You can use separately or mix together for the cheeks, eyes, decollette, or wherever you want a subtle, sun-kissed look.

Other options are Origins and Physician’s Formula as they are talc and mica free and more affordable.

6. Lip Gloss and Mascara

I’m not fussy about lip gloss but prefer one that’s not sticky and it must have SPF. For mascara I use Loreal Voluminous Mascara as it allows me to put several coats on if needed. it doesn’t clump or smudge and washes off easily.Loreal Voluminous Mascara

So there you have it! An easy morning routine to start 2014 off by fussing less with your skin.

It will give you the illusion of good skin (or make your already great skin look even better) and won’t contribute to clogging your pores or looking overdone. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

By the way, using an SPF of at least 15 every day is my most important secret to keeping skin looking younger and healthier all year round.

I was not compensated to write this post nor did I have products or gifts lavished upon me. I just like to keep my skin care routine simple and wanted to share that with you.
