Here on the west coast we don’t see a lot of snow or extreme weather that affects our ability to stay connected to what’s going on outside our four walls. This winter especially has been particularly awesome in my books but I’m not a skier. Our local mountains suffered tremendously as did Whistler.
Folks back east however didn’t far so well. A few of my friends and family have been overwhelmed by the amount of snow that has accumulated and some have had to endure long power outages even as I write this post. I feel for them but having never experienced anything below -15 degrees Celsius, well, I can’t imagine what it must be like.
We live in a newer neighbourhood in Vancouver that doesn’t get affected by power outages. All the power lines are below ground so we are protected for the most part and have a generator that kicks in if something extreme happens. In other parts of the city, power outages can be quite common when the wind kicks up but rarely if ever due to mountains of snow accumulation. So we are fortunate in that way. But I feel like we are hyper connected, at least I am, to the world-wide web and need to find opportunities to disconnect from technology at times.
From power outages to rainy days, sometimes the most unexpected moments can bring us together. With blackouts on the rise and ice storms more common than ever before, whether by chance or by choice, we tend to connect more when we’re powered down.
The latest video from Kraft Peanut Butter shows the powerful moments of connection that can be created when we disconnect.
When the power goes out or you’re stuck inside the house due to the weather, do you find comfort in just being together with your family?
