World Sight Day Challenge: #WhoBlinkedFirst Staring Contest

My Poor OLD eyes

Lately it seems my eyesight is getting worse. It’s gotten to the point that I need reading glasses all the time. And while you might scoff and say, ‘Lee-Anne I’ve been wearing glasses for years, why are you complaining?!” I haven’t needed to wear glasses until about a year ago. I’m in my mid to late 40’s and have been proud to say I haven’t needed them!

Sigh. Aside from the reflection I see in the mirror everyday, it’s yet another sign that I’m getting older. I suppose I should just accept it right? I mean, it could be a whole lot worse.

At least I have my eyesight.

There are many people, including way too many kids, that have either poor vision or have lost their eyesight and it is entirely preventable. According to the World Health Organization, 285 million people are visually impaired worldwide, but of that number 80% of these impairments can be avoided or cured.

So what can you do?

Stand back Ice Bucket Challenge! Here comes the #WhoBlinkedFirst Staring Contest!

Challenge your friends to the Ultimate Staring Contest

To participate, share a video of your staring contest, use the hashtag #WHOBLINKEDFIRST on Twitter and Facebook and a pair of prescription eyeglasses, Vitamin A Tablets, or protective sunglasses will be donated! (Donations are based on a person’s individual need.)

How great is that? To get started, have a look at this short video to see how you can do your own, or to at least get inspiration. These guys are masters!

Check this video out.

Here’s my video. We didn’t last that long. I think I won but you be the judge. (It was an amazing day for weather don’t you think?)

Now go and share this post with your friends and then challenge them to a staring contest on or before THIS THURSDAY!

World Sight Day is Thursday, October 9th 2014

Can you stare down your friend without blinking or smiling? Do you think you could take them all on and win the grand prize of $1000?

Awesome! Help raise awareness for blindness and visual impairment and bring your friends down to Portside in Gastown to participate in the live event!

Register here ahead of time for a chance to win $1000!

Clearly Contacts has a big dream and a bigger heart

They have helped over 340,000 people worldwide to date and this is just a start. By the year 2020, their goal is to assist 2 million people by providing eyeglasses to restore vision, sunglasses to protect from sight deteriorating UV rays and Vitamin A tablets to prevent the early onset of eye disease in children.

For more information, visit their website.

Find Clearly Contacts on Twitter and Facebook and get in on the fun! Don’t forget to use the hashtag #WhoBlinkedFirst and you could win big!

Thanks for reading. I was given a pair of eyeglasses as compensation for participating in this challenge which is awesome because I’m heading to the optometrist soon for a prescription update. Thanks Clearly Contacts!
