I love ‘end of the world’ TV dramas

There is something about watching people fight for their lives and the human race that I can’t get enough of. I have my favourite, which will go unnamed, however it involved a lot of the undead walking around getting in the way of the people trying to survive and save the world.

I am not into pointless horror flicks where the people drop like flies just because they happen to be camping in what is clearly the wrong part of the woods. I need substance. I need to see struggle. And I love it when the show is over you ask yourself, what would I have done? Am I one of the good guys?

There’s something about watching people dig deep inside themselves to discover what they’re made of that I thoroughly enjoy. And of course you discover the darkness in the people you thought were friends. And then there’s the wondering if the good guys will turn bad and whether the bad guys will see their wicked ways and turn their lives around for what it’s worth when you’re facing the possible obliteration of the human species. 

So when I was asked to review a brand new post-apocalyptic show premiering on Showcase this Friday, January 16th, of course I was intrigued to say the least. I have been looking for a new show to sink my teeth into since my other new favourite show has been on hiatus.

12 Monkeys

Inspired by the classic blockbuster film, 12 Monkeys explores the provocative story of Cole (Aaron Stanford, Nikita, X-Men: The Last Stand, X2), a time traveller from a decimated future in a high-stakes race against the clock. Utilizing a dangerous and untested method of time travel, he journeys from 2043 to the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will all but annihilate the human race.
