Your Enemy on the Inside
With rain, rumination
the pain of cruel words, hurled
A viperous laceration
unwinds to strike
Unforgiving
without thinking and thinking too much
your enemy on the inside
Years of passive gnawing
not knowing its hold
Lashing to a place apart from
Skin broken
your enemy on the inside
Time tells its fate
Misery shifts, reshapes,
Rain, tears rejuvenate
restore Faith
A gut-wrenching place
unwinds this affliction
Knowing words spoken
Heal the most serious bite
Driven away, words said but unsaid
without thinking, and thinking too much
We give thanks for the gift
hearts now intact
and bless fully
your enemy on the inside
That was heavy
Whew…that was bit heavy, wasn’t it? Writing poetry seems a bit weird to me, but then again, I’ve been told on several occasions that I am so if the shoe fits….
Life and relationships feel a bit overwhelming sometimes. I just wish that we could all say what’s on our minds without worry about judgement or hurt feelings. But that’s not to be in this world. And besides, this blog probably wouldn’t exist anyway so I’m grateful for the mess, as hard as it is. What else can we do but do our best, right?
When I am really struggling poetry is a way to get the hurt feelings out of my chest and onto the table to examine and ultimately heal. And sometimes I like to share this with you because I know there are people out there who can relate.
I am so thankful you took the time to read this today.
